ABSTRACT
Background and Objectives : Cancer is a real public health problem worldwide as well as in Morocco. Advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment methodshave increased the number of cancer survivors. However, the psychological and mental health care of cancer survivors in Morocco remains understudied, and often underestimated by the health system. Our study Aims to assess the fear of cancer recurrence and its associated sociodemographic and clinical factors in cancer survivors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among a population of (n = 200) patients followed at the oncology and hematology hospital of the university hospital center Mohammed IV, Marrakech, Morocco. The data collection instrument consists of standardized scales validated and translated into dialectal Arabic. Results: The main Results we obtained from this study indicated that 51% of the patients present a clinical level of fear of cancer recurrence, 33% of the patients suffer from the anxiety disorder and 21.5% suffer from depression. Significant inter-correlations have been revealed between fear of cancer recurrence, anxiety disorders and depressive disorders. Conclusions: At the end of this study, important recommendations were made to improve the conditions of care for the mental health of cancer survivors. In particular, the establishment of programs and protocols for psychological care. Keywords: cancer survivors, anxiety, depression, fear of cancer recurrence.
